Why Online Jamabandi Copies Aren't Legally Binding
Informational vs. Certified Record of Rights
The Dharitree portal allows any citizen to print their Jamabandi for free. However, these printouts clearly carry a watermark stating they are for informational purposes only.
Where Does the Free Copy Fail?
If you take an online printout to a bank for an agricultural loan, or to a civil court for a property dispute, it will be rejected. Without a government official's physical signature and seal, the document holds no evidentiary value under the Indian Evidence Act.
Obtaining a Certified Copy
To acquire a legally binding Jamabandi:
- Apply online via the Sewa Setu portal under "Issuance of Certified Copy of Jamabandi".
- Pay the minimal court fee and service charge.
- Wait for the digital signature. Once approved, the modern digitally signed copies are fully legally valid and contain a secure QR code.
Alternatively, you can visit the local Circle Office, submit a manual petition with court fee stamps, and the record keeper will issue a hand-stamped copy.
